In our new Unit on – “How we organise ourselves” we the year 5’s went for a field trip to the FFA. The purpose of this field trip is to observe how fishing affects the environment and to see how fishing contributes to the economic growth of this country. We learnt a lot of things but it was very interesting to see that;
We would like to thank;
On Friday the 5th of August, the Year 5 had a Technology Fair for their Summative Assessment. Before the Technology Fair we took the Assembly and used a time machine by bringing inventors from the past and ask them what they have invented and what they would like to see at the Technology Fair today.
We really enjoyed showing our inventions. It was fun and enjoyable because we got to talk and explain about our inventions to people who came to see it and learn about it as well. We were happy to show our inventions to the little children because they were fascinated about some of our inventions as well. Some of our inventions were really good and helpful to people because it would help them make life easier for them. Here are a few of the inventions that were made; Hover Car, Zoom Glass, Liquid Pen, Drink Changer, Gadget Belt, Glow in the dark Hat, Solar boat charger boat, Book Case, L Shaped Blocks, The Lemonade Maker, Water Tank Electricity Maker and a lot of other interesting inventions. We enjoyed working together with our partners to invent our technologies, although some partners did not work well together, it was a good experience to work with someone with our invention.
On Tuesday the 19 th of July Year 2 set off on our provocation excursion at 9am as part of our unit WHERE
WE ARE IN PLACE AND TIME . We arrived at the memorial site and took in the beautiful scenery and
started to think about our first line of inquiry – Geographical features of the Earth. After snack we were
given an activity to draw, note and describe the different features we could see. We drew Mataniko
River, the sea, the hills and valleys, Savo Island and other islands.
Here are some pictures of our trip.
Well, I started out thinking camp was going to be a not so good camp this year. But life just had to prove me wrong.
We left for SWIM in the morning, the bus filled with chatter, laughs and excitement. We were chaperoned by Mrs. Sonia Murari, Mr. Rakesh Pandey and Mrs. Florence Ally. We were put into different groups and we got to choose our names. Astro Smiles, The Legend of the Dark and Phore Sail. We started our camp with a few remarks from our teachers and some team building activities.
Our first lunch was to be brought from home. We ate whatever we had packed from home while we waited around for a bit for the truck to arrive. We went to Bethesda Disability Centre at Henderson to do our community service. We shoveled chicken manure into bags and loaded them into a bus and a wheelbarrow to the other side of the establishment. A delicious refreshment of fruits and juice was offered to us and then we were given a tour of the compound. The truck came back to pick us up and take us back to SWIM.
Dinner was prepared by the Phore Sail and we had sweet and sour fish with rice. It was delicious. Mr Rakesh was in charge of the night activities and he organized activities that used our listening skills. We started off unscrambling words and then later enjoyed a scavenger hunt.
After a hearty breakfast prepared by The Legend of the Dark which consisted of french toast, cereal, milk and fruit juice, we all prepared ourselves for the hike up to the Tenaru waterfalls. It was a terrific experience. The ride there was bumpy but we made it to the lodge where our guide, Jonathan, met with us. The walk there was tiring but the waterfall made up for it. It was beautiful and numbingly cold. The sun hid behind a veil of cloud and pretty soon everyone was shivering with cold. The walk back was torture but a unique feature of our experience.
We had a delicious vegetarian curry with rice that was cooked by Mr. Rakesh. After dinner we had a bonfire outside and we enjoyed a night of laughter and skits. We went in our different groups and presented an item that we had planned throughout the day. The teachers then gave us some free time before bed to do whatever we wanted.
We woke up to a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs, cereal and milk prepared by Phore Sail. Mrs. Alley prepared a day full of fun. She organised us to play in our groups and we faced each other in soccer and volleyball. Our last lunch at SWIM was prepared by the Legend of the Dark and we had a terrific meal of burgers, hotdogs, fried rice, some fruits and orange juice.
Everyone was sad to say goodbye to SWIM because we had such an awesome time there. We packed all our belongings. We sat in a circle and did a little reflection, sharing to the class what we enjoyed, learnt about ourselves and the rest of the class and we were sent on our way to think about what we could improve. We reluctantly filed into the bus. Some of us had a quick nap since we were pretty worn out. All in all, the 2016 IGCSE 1 camp was a great success. It brought us together as a class and we went home with memories that will probably last a life time.
