The Board met on 1 June, excited that in this year of planning we have already commenced activities to gain information and structure needed to guide WIS into the future. This term the School’s Board has been busy planning through it’s sub-committees.
The Strategy sub-committee has started preparatory work towards developing a new strategic plan. The focus during this term has been gaining a realistic picture of where Woodford is currently and investigating opportunities for the school to further develop. The sub-committee will be conducting market research with the WIS internal and external community to gain insight into opportunities for WIS in the next 5-10 years.
The Policy sub-committee is focusing on strengthening the school’s governance framework. The first major element of the governance framework, a “Strategic Policies Compendium”, was adopted by the Board at its 1 June meeting. The Strategic Policies articulate parameters within which the Board and the Head of School (and his team) are to exercise roles and responsibilities under the WIS Constitution. This document will assist in clarifying the Head of School’s responsibilities and Board delegations. The Strategic Policy Compendium is available for all members of the WIS community to read on the website or by clicking HERE.
In addition to the Strategic Policy Compendium, the Policy sub-committee has also drafted a Board Governance Handbook. The Handbook seeks to institutionalise and standardise key Board practices and procedures that, if followed, would satisfy the Board’s and its members responsibilities under the WIS Constitution and Solomon Islands law. The draft Handbook is being reviewed by the Board and will be formally considered at its next meeting.
The Audit sub-committee has commenced developing a Financial Procedures Handbook. This Handbook will provide WIS with guidance and structure in financial matters.
This is an exciting year for the Board, while we focus on strengthening the school’s governance framework and identifying opportunities to build on WIS’s many strengths. The Board wants to guide WIS towards a future that reflects the aspirations and priorities of our diverse WIS community. If you want to be involved and assist in any part of this process, please contact any Board member or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
