This semester sees the start of something new – Book Clubs for teachers!
Last term Dwight asked all the teachers to select five books they would be interested in reading, from a varied selection of titles. Dwight then purchased the books and brought them back with him from New York after midterm break. Every teacher now has a book to read. We have six Book Club groups consisting of 6-8 teachers. The groups will meet 3 or 4 times per term, to discuss the book (as in a regular Book Club). Each group decides where and when they want to meet, and for how long. As well as talking about the book, groups might choose to also spend some of their time together on a more social level. How they structure their meetings is up to each group.
There is a variety of books being read this semester – here is the list of the current titles and authors:
Some interesting titles! Book Club groups are encouraged to keep a log/record of their meetings, including photos. Later in the year all six groups will get together for a ‘Book Carnival’ where each group will present their book in some way, for example as a drama skit. Groups will try to promote the book to others, and also suggest ways in which ideas/insights from the book could be applied here at Woodford.
